About Sarah
My Story

I was born in Southern California but have spent most of my life in the Pacific Northwest. Early in life, I experienced trauma and this shaped the way that I viewed myself, others, and the world. I come from a resilient family that has battled with mental illness and substance abuse. My personal history includes depression, anxiety, substance abuse, broken relationships and single parenting. The struggle is real!

What began my path to become a counselor is the love of people and understanding why people do what they do. I studied psychology at Seattle Pacific University and received a Bachelor of Science in 2007. I returned to academics at Antioch University Seattle in 2011, and received a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy in 2016.

I have been working in the field of counseling since 2012 in a variety of settings: homeless shelters, outpatient, community behavioral health clinics, jails, hospitals, out in the community, in people’s homes, and private practice. These experiences have taught me that client’s lives are far more robust and dynamic than what presents in the comfort of a counselor’s office. I learned that being an excellent counselor means focusing on the individual’s health and wellness in a holistic manner.

My therapeutic approach is culturally sensitive, collaborative, integrative and strengths-based. I assist clients in recognizing their own resilience and developing coping skills for mental health/substance use recovery and relapse prevention. Primary techniques that I use are CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, art therapy and yoga therapy.

In my free time, I enjoy yoga, arts and crafts, nature walks, and spending time with my family and friends
